All the global banking and insurance companies are in the mood of cut-costing. After AIG has got himself out from Manchester United, its now ING's turn, as they are looking for an orderly exit from its contract with Renault team.

The company has also had a large marketing campaign connected to its Formula One program over the last couple of years. Germany's Biggest Business family quarrel: Adidas Vs Puma

Adidas and Puma may be among the most recognized brands in the world, but neither might exist if not for a bitter rivalry between two brothers from a little-known village in Germany. The success story of the two major sports company adidas and Puma began a very long time ago. In the 1920s, Adolf (Adi) Dassler, a soft-spoken sports fanatic who spent hours working on shoe designs in his workshop, and Rudolf Dassler, a gregarious salesman, started a small shoemaking business in the Bavarian enclave of Herzogenaurach, and their father was also a shoemaker. The two brothers Adi and Rudolf Dassler founded 1924 "Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik" and focused on sport shoes at that time.

Puma founder Rudolf Dassler as a recreational boxer in year 1929

The origins of the split between Rudolf and Adolf are hard to pinpoint, but an Allied bomb attack on Herzogenaurach in 1943 illustrated the growing tension. Adi and his wife climbed into a bomb shelter that Rudolf and his family were already in.
"The dirty bastards are back again," Adolf said, apparently referring to the Allied warplanes. Rudolf was convinced that his brother meant him and his family. The damage was never repaired.
However this is not the only version of their reasons for the separation. Some say that with the end of the war, the brother Adi had delivered to the Allies.

Adidas has its headquarters on the Herzo Base, a new town of Herzogenaurach, while Puma’s is at the northern ring road of Herzogenaurach.

Rudolf died in 1974 and Adolf in 1978. The two are buried in the cemetery of Herzogenaurach, though(of course) on opposite sides of the land.

Adidas quickly became a much larger company than its rival. Where did Puma go wrong?
One of the critical failures for Puma was that Rudolf had an argument with the coach of the German soccer team, and that allowed Adidas an opening before the 1954 World Cup, where, completely against all odds, West Germany won against Hungary … Adi Dassler was in all the [newspaper] pictures; he was everywhere. And the Adidas black boots with the stripes were on all the players. From that moment on they received letters from around the world from people wanting to sell Adidas in other countries.

The 2009 Index of Economic Freedom

Hong Kong returned to occupy its top-spot for the 15th consecutive time, in the ‘Index of Economic Freedom’.

WTF this ranking is all about?
This ranking/study is done by the Heritage Foundation and the "Wall Street Journal.", to quote them
We measure ten components of economic freedom, assigning a grade in each using a scale from 0 to 100, where 100 represents the maximum freedom. The ten component scores are then averaged to give an overall economic freedom score for each country. The ten components of economic freedom are:
Business Freedom | Trade Freedom | Fiscal Freedom | Government Size | Monetary Freedom | Investment Freedom | Financial Freedom | Property rights | Freedom from Corruption | Labor Freedom

Where are we (Indian?)
Very well placed at 123th spot out of 183 nations, doing well against China, Nepal, Niger etc etc . Anyway we can say that like any other ranking , this is also of dubious nature, reason is simple: Pakistan is placed at 102.

Tumblr: easiest way to express yourself.

Presently the two most common way of regularly publishing your content are blogging and micro blogging. Though Blogs (like us) are technically far less complex than any other professional content management systems, but still they do require some basic knowledge of web design. Micro blogging services like Twitter on the other hand, usually serve as a platform for short, daily or hourly status reports kind of thing for their users - at 140 maximum authorized characters per entry. Here comes another service Tumblr, created by young David Karp, in 2005

Tumblr lets you effortlessly share anything. Post text, photos, quotes, links, music, and videos, from your browser, phone, desktop, email, or wherever you happen to be. You can customize everything, from colors, to your theme's HTML.

Company History 5: Adobe

John Warnock and Charles Geschke, former Xerox executives, met working in the PARC (Research Center Palo Alto, Calif.). Soon they teamed up and developed a revolutionary innovation of a standard computer language and scalable-font called PostScript. When Xerox refused to market the product, both of them left the company and founded Adobe Systems in 1982. PostScript is a high-level computer language that communicates precise descriptions of computer generated graphics, photos, and text to any output device with a PostScript interpreter. Soon in 1985, Apple licensed Adobe PostScript helping to form the backbone of the revolution in publishing.
In the late 80s, after the popularisation of PostScript, Adobe released Adobe Illustrator, which soon became one of the essential software for professional graphics. The existence of these two technologies would be the basis on which created the PDF format and Adobe Acrobat.
In February 1990 came the first version of Photoshop that eventually would become one of its best-selling products.

Pdf, the paperless office?
John Warnock wanted to reduce the consumption of paper in offices, thus began an internal project to create a file format for documents that could be distributed by the company, to be on any computer, regardless of operating system.
Adobe already had two things that almost fit with the idea: The PostScript (a device-independent technology and platform used to describe documents) and Adobe Illustrator (created in 1987, a program that operated on different platforms, which could open up and show PostScript files very simple).
In 1993, Adobe engineers improved both technologies and created a new file format Pdf (Portable Document File).

Happy Birthday Bizdom

Dear All,
It gives me immense joy and happiness to share with you that Bizdom today has turned 3 today (22, january 2009).This blog was started by our own "Born Moron" (Siddharth Misra) with the sole objective of utilising his leisure time into doing something thing that would be very useful and creative as well.

Beginning : A time pass activity.
[Time period : jan 2006 - nov 2006]

As i write this post i get a feeling that even he would not have imagined that what he started would turn out into something that would be very informative and continuing.Born Moron started off this blog by publishing the history of Bombay Stock Exchange,With this post he started off a journey(a virtual one though!) with a look out for discovery and trivia and down the line in march 2006 the first quiz was posted on Bizdom, which added a dimension to Bizdom, a dimension of posting business quizzing and needless to say it was this dimension that has played a major role in making the blog what it is.

Welcome the new member!
Time period : [Dec 2006 to April 2007]
Within ten months of its start bizdom had already logged in more than 20 posts.Covering Business history,Trivia,Advertisements,Business Quizzes etc and during this time period Bizdom 3*3 series had got fairly popular.Born Moron had become pretty wise about blogging by this time and decided that it is time that he added a member to this blog and as a result of this initiative of his, yours truly(by the way my name is Shivdas) became a member. My first post was the FinQdom, which elicited a lukewarm response from the readers, meanwhile on the other hand 3*3 quizzing was growing by everyday. If we reflect on the nature of posts published during this time period,we could easily make out that business quizzes post had increased quite significantly. One could say that this was the period when the foundations of this blog were being solidified and style of blogging was defined. The journey for discovery was going at full throttle!

Focus deviation and correction
Time period [May 2007 to Jan 2009]

It is often seen when a person becomes rich and huge he often forgets from where he started and Bizdom is also not a deviation from this normal phenomenon .We had started with the focus of discovering knowledge and trivia, but in between we lost our focus by publishing way to many posts about knowledge that could not be digested in a public forum. So much so that Bizdom during this period became in-famous for such posts many objections were raised, many feedbacks were received and finally we are thankful that we got our focus back.To me it was as if life had completed a full circle. We now are back at posting for what we are known as best : “publishing our discovered knowledge”.In the meantime we added several other members such as Gambler, Ankit “Safar”Joshi,Nidhi (Freaked out)Nahata who have done a stupendous job in keeping this blog running.Ankit “Safar” Joshi is one of those guys who has started off with a bang and has actually outnumbered yours truly in terms of publishing new posts.New quiz series have been started such as Quizon, AQAD, etc which have been enhancing our focus. In between all this we also acquired a blog or rather the blog owner itself ,who despite our humble request during our early days to join our blog refused to do so and thus forcefully we had to acquire this blog owner. The acquired blog owner used to publish business quiz posts such as business freak and all.Now the blog owner has been acquired and is a disciplined and loyal member of this blog.In many ways we can say it was due to this acquired blog owner that the freakiness of our blog has reduced.we hope she (oops shouldn’t have mentioned the gender) would continue her diligence and set right the morons of our blogs in terms of the nature of posts being published.

Last but not the least
We thank all our readers for their continued support and specific feedbacks which has helped us in a long way to shape up our posts; We look forward to such support and readership in future as well,May everyone be with us in our quest for “publishing our discovered knowledge”

Regards,
Shivdas

Recently found a very interesting link, see what could happened during recession time.

At the Adult Entertainment Expo, the annual confab that runs concurrently with the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, there were fewer exhibitors, fewer fans and a lot less glitz.

According to a rep for Adult Video News, which runs the show, the exhibitor count was down about 18% from last year. Attendance by fans -- who are admitted on some days of the show, with the rest open to industry pros only -- wasn’t set to be tallied until after the event was finished, but is likely down as well.

Company History 4: Coca - Cola

History
It all began in 1886 when John Pemberton, a pharmacist from the city of Atlanta, created a drink that would become one of the greatest symbols of corporate world. This Creation of Pemberton was very much motivated by a sense of curiosity. The pharmacist used to experiment his medical formulas to find a cure for a headache. One day he mixed his syrup with soda and offered it to his customers, who consider it as a very special drink. Soon the product was a put for sale for $ 0.05. Frank Robinson, Pemberton accountant, coined the term Coca-Cola, writing the name with his own calligraphy.
The official date of birth of the product was on May 8, 1886. In the early years were sold approximately 9 cups (237 ml) per day. Unfortunately, Pemberton was more an inventor than a businessman. Without having the slightest idea that his invention would be a worldwide success, in 1891 he sold the company to Asa Griggs Candler, for approximately $ 2,300.00. Candler became the first president of the company and the first to give visibility to the real business and brand. Asa Candler, a born salesman, made the Coca-Cola a simple invention into a big business. And found creative ways to present the brightest new drink: distributed coupons to encourage people to try the product and the pharmaceutical supplied with clocks, scales and calendars with the Coca-Cola.

By 1895, Candler had built factories in the cities of Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles. The popularity of the condenser required new forms of presentations that allowed more people to enjoy it. In 1894, Joseph B. Whitehead, put the drinks in a bottle and gave Candler, it was not very enthusiastic about the news. Despite being a businessman innovative and brilliant, could not imagine at the time that the secret of the success of Coca-Cola would be in portable bottles that consumers can take anywhere. So five years later in 1899, for just $ 1, he sold the exclusive rights to bottle and sells the drink to lawyers Benjamin F. Thomas and Joseph B. Whitehead.
