Heineken to sell branded goods via Facebook shopHeineken to sell branded goods via Facebook shop

The Dutch lager brand is aiming to tap into Facebook's 560m active users, and its own fanbase of nearly 1m on the site, to build a profitable retail operation.

The store will offer Heine-ken-branded clothes and merchandise, but Floris Cobelens, manager of global digital media at the brand, plans to encourage its Facebook fans to tell it what to sell.

'Why not give them the chance to decide what they want to buy?' he asked.

The initiative is in line with Heineken's plans to use the web to develop its global presence. It has brought its multiple Facebook pages together to build a single one for the brand and, similarly, has only a single YouTube channel; it is also revamping its global website.

Heineken is finalising plans to standardise its branding globally, too. Having altered its logo design, including moving the star to above the centre of the word 'Heineken', it is now rolling out standardised bottle and can designs.

Velcro hook and loop fasteners revitalize its brand identity

Building on its heritage of over 50 years as a global leader in fastening systems, the Velcro Companies - the business behind the original VELCRO Brand hook and loop fastener - has completed an exciting revitalisation of its brand identity.

The fresh, modernised branding includes a revamped logo design, which draws upon elements of the company's original logo, used for half a century. The revived brand will be consistent across all marketing communications, including packaging, brochures, corporate literature and printed collateral to be enhanced with the new-look throughout 2011.

Having reached the 50 year landmark, and in a move to facilitate global consistency, the decision was made to refresh the brand and introduce one, individual logo to be used across both consumer and business-to-business units globally. Prior to the rebrand several variations of the brand were utilised across international regions; these will now make way for the new corporate identity generating true global alignment.

A museum of Indian business history

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K) is embarking on an ambitious project to set up a Museum of Indian Business History to acknowledge the contribution of the country's business leaders in the making of corporate India.

The museum will house business-related historical artefacts, objects, sculptures, models, photographs, documents and illustrations, among other things. The objective is to “inspire aspiring business entrepreneurs in the country and show them the path to success through innovative ideas, diligence and perseverance.”
According to Prof. Debashis Chatterjea, Director, IIM-K, it was the endeavour of the institute to consolidate and conserve the invaluable memorabilia of India's business history for posterity. He wished that corporates would participate in the making of the museum by contributing significant historical objects and artefacts for which due acknowledgement would be attributed to the organisation.

IIMK has requested around 100 CEOs and leaders of major business houses, including the Tatas, Ambanis and Birlas, for their contributions to the museum, which will be formally inaugurated on its Foundation Day in 2011. The initial investment for the project is estimated at Rs 1 crore.
