The origin of Love, Duck and Nil

The term ‘love’, meaning 0, in tennis is derived from the French ‘l’oeuf’, meaning ‘the egg’ – an egg looking not unlike a 0. The same thinking gave rise to the use of ‘duck’ in cricket for a batsman’s score of 0. Scratch is the golfing term for 0, as in ‘scratch out’, meaning to erase. A ‘scratch golfer’ plays off a 0 handicap. Nil is a term that is rarely used outside the field of sport (one exception being the medical phrase ‘nil by mouth’, meaning ‘not to be swallowed’). Nil is a simple abbreviation of ‘nihil’, the Latin word for nothing.

From origin of Maruti to the existence of Durga Bhabhi

I was invited to meet Mr. Arvind Srivastava (owner of Lucknow based MBA-Preparation-Coaching -ICC) with whom I had worked in the past, and was greeted by another acquaint, Gurjeet Sir ( ICC's maths and reasoning faculty). It was a very exciting meet, which ended up in throwing some trivia’s , little-bit of India TV or Aaj-Tak type news (like Rahul Baba’s would-be is Jatin Prasad’s sister) and lots of just-concluded-IPL’s( which was won by UPA) debating content.
Now, the two most amazing fact which I had not known before this meet was the origin of Maruti and existence of Durga Bhabhi in my own city.

You don’t know who Maruti Mohan was...?
Like a typical UP wala all three of us started our debate on the outcome of just concluded political league, in between to that discussion here come an interesting trivia for all of you ..
Me: I was so happy that Junta in Lucknow taught Akhilesh Das a lesson that no one can win election using only money-power
Gurjeet Sir: what more interesting is that Lucknow has shown it twice, first it was V. R. Mohan now its Das. (I posted a qts on Mr. Mohan in the BiZdom 3*3 no 26, he is/was the owner of Mohan Mekin)
Arvind Sir: ok both of you tell me about another thing which is often seen by us and is very much part of V R Mohan.
After a silence of few seconds and our lack of knowledge, came the word ‘Maruti’
Gurjeet Sir: Ohh I was thinking that
Totally confused or rather in another world I asked them the logic, which was quite surprisingly responded by Gurjeet sir “ aare tu Maruti Mohan ko nahi janta...aare Sanjay Gandhi ki girl friend thi..V R mohan ki beti..jis ke naam pe Maruti company is named”
Now it was my turn to surprise and hence responded ...never heard of this story..so here come the golden word
Gurjeet Sir: this ‘Fact’ was never shown light, after another amazing event, when the PM son was forced to marry a girl and even his mother was not part of it and infact bridegroom himself was not part of it as the marriage took place on gun-point.
Given the conviction of both of them and their knowledge on political circle, I am now happy forced to accept this story as a fact..

Below is the little prove of what I am saying ..[text is taken from a book called Committees and Commissions in India [...]: A-D. 1977]

You don’t know Durga Bhabhi also....
I didn’t felt bad on my lack of knowledge on Maruti Mohan, but on the account of Durga Bhabhi, it was a humiliation.
Anyway to cut the story short, Durga Bhabhi had spend most of his post-independence life in Lucknow and she was the founder-principal of Lucknow Montessory School . In the movie Rang de Basanti, Soha Ali Khan is shown in her role.

Married to Bhagwati Charan Vohra, another freedom fighter, Durga Bhabhi was a simple housewife living in Lucknow till her husband’s death. Vohra, closely associated with Hindustan Socialist Republican Association as well as Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, died in an explosion while conducting bomb trials. It was then Durga Bhabhi took over. Her house became a meeting point for freedom fighters with Durga Bhabhi taking part extensively in the discussions.

But her most famous contribution was when she pretended to be Bhagat Singh’s wife and together, they managed to flee from the first-class compartment of a train, after Bhagat Singh shot Saunders, a British official.

After independence, Durga Bhabhi opened Lucknow Montessory School for poor children in Purana Qila area. She died at the age of 92 in 1999, and was survived by her son Shachichandra Vohra.

Past, Present and Future of Media

Here is a span spot or a chart that gives an insight for evolution of various medium of media in the past two centuries.

1800 - The face to face period
In the 1800, the only way you could really interact with other people was to go out and meet them. It was all about face-to-face communication. If you wanted to sell a product, you would go to the local marketplace, where you would setup a stand. But this also meant that the only way for you to get information - or to give information back - was to be at the right place at the right time. You didn't really know what happened in another part of the city, nor could you sell your products to people in another place.

1900 - Read all about it!
By the year 1900, the newspapers and magazine had revolutionized how we communicated. Now we could get news from places we have never been. We could communicate our ideas to people we had never seen. And we could sell our products to people far away.

You still had to go out to talk other people, but you could stay on top of things, without leaving the city. It was amazing. It was the first real revolution of information. The world was opening up to everyone.

Wolfram Alpha

The next generation of search engines and potential Google Killer????, goes live. Wolfram Alpha reads your question in natural language, scans its own databases, and gives you the answer. Wanna know who shot Kennedy? No more poring through Wikipedia looking for hints. Wolfram Alpha will probably complement, rather than challenge, Google. Well the two sites offer two distinct services: Wolfram Alpha looks like it can't be beat when it comes to pulling up raw data and presenting it in a graceful, useable form, and Google is great for, well, everything else. Wolfram Alpha's focus on statistics and cold, hard data will make it more of a threat to Wikipedia more.

Lipton has to remain "STAY SHARP" against "Jaago Re"

HUL has woken up to Tata Tea’s mega success with the "Jaago Re" campaign and has launched ‘Stay Sharp’ for Lipton. The idea is to leverage the online space to launch and build consumer engagement with the Lipton Yellow Label tea, which was visible mainly at tea and coffee vending machines in offices.
The result: Lipton’s new digital campaign is all about the world's largest jigsaw puzzle consisting of 25,000 pieces, which are further broken into 1,000 parts with 25 pieces each.
Brand positioning: Lipton relaunched its yellow label tea in mid-April with increased focus on Theanine, a naturally found substance in tea which is known to increase 'alpha brain waves’ that are associated with a "relaxed yet alert" state of mind.
The puzzle, available on the website – www.stay-sharp.in — has been conceptualized by Royce B McClure who designed the world's largest commercially available jigsaw puzzle, titled Life: The Great Challenge, consisting of 24,000 pieces.
For example, in the FMCG category, mega digital campaigns such as Cadbury's meethamoments and HUL’s gangofgirls (Sunsilk) couldn’t create the kind of buzz jaago re did.
With elections round the corner, the campaign had an immediate connect. Result: jaago re has over 6,00,000 registered users besides the Facebook pages and thousands of views on YouTube. But now that the elections are over, Jaago Re may have lost its relevance. So what will be the Tata Tea’s next punch?????????
