Facebook Co-Founder Chris Hughes Launches Jumo Social Network

Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes -- yes, he is featured as a pivotal character in The Social Network movie -- is up to something new.

His startup, Jumo -- a philanthropic endeavor that works to match people with political movements, nonprofit organizations and other causes -- formally launched today. (Jumo means "together in concert" in Yoruba, a West African language.)

Hughes, who spearheaded My.BarackObama.com, the organizing online platforms for the Obama presidential campaign, says the site's mission is simple.

Raj Kumar Hirani back to his roots

Raj Kumar Hirani, along with his friend Sanjeev Kishinchandani, has launched a company called Canvass Films to make ad commercials. He began his career in Mumbai as an editor and gradually moved on to establish himself as a director and producer of advertising films.

Rajkumar Hirani was born in Nagpur. From the starting, he was very actively involved with Hindi theatre in Nagpur. Following his graduation, he headed for the Film & Television Institute of India at Pune, where he completed his Diploma in Cinema in 1987 with a specialization in editing.

Office 365 Beta

Microsoft's Office 365 is a major re-branding and relaunch of the company's business cloud services. Previously offered as Business Productivity Online Services (BPOS), Office 365 brings together the 2010 releases of Exchange and SharePoint, along with the Lync unified communications platform. It's not just an online solution: depending on the service bundle you choose, there's an option to use a subscription version of the Office 2010 desktop productivity suite.

Microsoft plans to offer Office 365 in a number of service tiers, ranging from a stripped-down small-business version to one packaged for large-scale enterprises. The most attractive tiers bundle a full license to Office Professional Plus 2010 for each user, which is arguably Microsoft's greatest advantage over online-only competitors such as Google Docs.

Iconic Superman Illustration Fails to Sale at Auction

The cover illustration of Superman #14 by artist Fred Ray has failed to meet its reserve at auction but did attract a record bid of of $402,111.

According to Bleeding Cool, the bid would have set a new record for American comic book art if the piece had sold.

The iconic artwork depicts the Man of Steel with an eagle perched on his arm and was salvaged by Batman illustrator Jerry Robinson in 1942. Robinson's "Double Guns" Joker cover to Detective Comics #69 also failed to meet its reserve at the event.

Auctioneers Comic Connect made headlines earlier this year, selling a copy of Action Comics #1 for a record-breaking $1.5 million.

The current record for US comic art is the $380,000 paid for Frank Frazetta's cover of Weird Science-Fantasy #29 in a private transaction in June.
