Court closes plea against Mahatma Gandhi pens
Montblanc International GmbH, Germany, and the Rajkot-based distributor of its luxury pens told the Kerala High Court on Tuesday that the sale of “Mahatma Gandhi Limited Edition 241” and “Mahatma Gandhi Limited Edition 3000” pens of the company had been discontinued in the country.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice J. Chelameswar and Justice Antony Dominic, thus closed a writ petition filed by Dijo Kappen, managing trustee of the Centre for Consumer Education in Kottayam, seeking a ban on these luxury pens.
Montblanc and the distributor said in an affidavit that they tendered an unconditional apology if the sentiments of any citizens had been hurt. They had no intention to exploit the name of Mahatma Gandhi or to bring disrepute to the Father of the Nation.
