Past, Present and Future of Media

Here is a span spot or a chart that gives an insight for evolution of various medium of media in the past two centuries.

1800 - The face to face period
In the 1800, the only way you could really interact with other people was to go out and meet them. It was all about face-to-face communication. If you wanted to sell a product, you would go to the local marketplace, where you would setup a stand. But this also meant that the only way for you to get information - or to give information back - was to be at the right place at the right time. You didn't really know what happened in another part of the city, nor could you sell your products to people in another place.

1900 - Read all about it!
By the year 1900, the newspapers and magazine had revolutionized how we communicated. Now we could get news from places we have never been. We could communicate our ideas to people we had never seen. And we could sell our products to people far away.

You still had to go out to talk other people, but you could stay on top of things, without leaving the city. It was amazing. It was the first real revolution of information. The world was opening up to everyone.

Wolfram Alpha

The next generation of search engines and potential Google Killer????, goes live. Wolfram Alpha reads your question in natural language, scans its own databases, and gives you the answer. Wanna know who shot Kennedy? No more poring through Wikipedia looking for hints. Wolfram Alpha will probably complement, rather than challenge, Google. Well the two sites offer two distinct services: Wolfram Alpha looks like it can't be beat when it comes to pulling up raw data and presenting it in a graceful, useable form, and Google is great for, well, everything else. Wolfram Alpha's focus on statistics and cold, hard data will make it more of a threat to Wikipedia more.

Lipton has to remain "STAY SHARP" against "Jaago Re"

HUL has woken up to Tata Tea’s mega success with the "Jaago Re" campaign and has launched ‘Stay Sharp’ for Lipton. The idea is to leverage the online space to launch and build consumer engagement with the Lipton Yellow Label tea, which was visible mainly at tea and coffee vending machines in offices.
The result: Lipton’s new digital campaign is all about the world's largest jigsaw puzzle consisting of 25,000 pieces, which are further broken into 1,000 parts with 25 pieces each.
Brand positioning: Lipton relaunched its yellow label tea in mid-April with increased focus on Theanine, a naturally found substance in tea which is known to increase 'alpha brain waves’ that are associated with a "relaxed yet alert" state of mind.
The puzzle, available on the website – www.stay-sharp.in — has been conceptualized by Royce B McClure who designed the world's largest commercially available jigsaw puzzle, titled Life: The Great Challenge, consisting of 24,000 pieces.
For example, in the FMCG category, mega digital campaigns such as Cadbury's meethamoments and HUL’s gangofgirls (Sunsilk) couldn’t create the kind of buzz jaago re did.
With elections round the corner, the campaign had an immediate connect. Result: jaago re has over 6,00,000 registered users besides the Facebook pages and thousands of views on YouTube. But now that the elections are over, Jaago Re may have lost its relevance. So what will be the Tata Tea’s next punch?????????

Company History 9: American Airlines

In 1926, Charles A. Lindbergh was the chief pilot of Robertson Aircraft Corporation, which was based at an airfield in Forest Park. Soon Robertson Aircraft Corporation and about 85 other small airline companies were consolidated in 1929 and 1930 into the Aviation Corporation, which eventually formed American Airways, the immediate predecessor of today’s American Airlines. It was in 1934 that the company reorganized American Airways and became American Airlines, Inc. Not long after, American developed an air traffic control system that would later be used by all airlines and administered by the U.S. government. The company also introduced the first domestic scheduled U.S. freight service in 1944.

On April 15, 1926, Charles Lindbergh flew the first leg of the first round trip Chicago to St. Louis airmail flight. Flying the airmail was a dangerous business and Lindbergh had to jump from more than one aircraft because of weather or mechanical difficulties. This flight is considered to have been first start of American Airlines’ long history.

History of Smiley Faces!

The need to involve feelings and emotions in a written text existed long before the creation of emoticons and the emergence of computer networks. First such use is documented on April 1857, when the numeric code "73" was added in a message written in Morse code an a symbol of affectionate "love and kisses".

Later on , in September 1982, Scott Fahlman posted the following message to the BBS boards of Carnegie Melon University:

19-Sep-82 11:44 Scott E Fahlman :-) 19-Sep-82 11:44 Scott E Fahlman :-)

The other 'smiley'

The Smiley Face was actually designed in 1964 by Harvey Ball, a co-owner of an advertising and public relations firm in Worchester, Massachusetts. In the early 60s, State Mutual Life Assurance of Worcester initiated a merger detrimentrally affected company morale. In 1964, the company started up a “friendship campaign” to get employees to smile whenever possible, even while they typed reports. How did the company do this? This was where Harvey Ball came into play. Ball spent about 10 minutes designing the smiley face and the company gave him $45 in return. Ball received no other profit from his invention and he had never copyrighted it. By the 1970s, the smiley face became the ultimate symbol for Americans of happiness and joy.
