e-Poison Pill

Laptops, powered with anti-theft protection technology at chip level, could be rendered useless by sending a digital Poison Pill. As the unauthorised user logs into the system, the pill blocks its boot process at the hardware level. Even if it is formatted many times over, the hard disk would remain a dud.
“Unlike anti-virus solutions that offer anti-theft tools, security at hard-disk level would offer a far better protection,” Mr R. Ravichandran, Director of Sales (South Asia) of Intel, said.
